Marco De Benedetti is Managing Director of The Carlyle Group and he is the Co-Head Europe as well as a Director of Cofide SpA and Save the Children Italia Onlus.

From 1987 to 1989 he worked for Wasserstein, Perrella & Co., a merchant bank in New York, in the field of Mergers & Acquisitions. In 1990 he joined Olivetti as assistant to the CEO of Olivetti Systems & Networks and was later appointed as Group Director of Marketing and Services. In 1992 he was appointed general manager of Olivetti Portugal.

In September 1994 he became CEO of Olivetti Telemedia and in October 1996 he became Chairman of Infostrada, a company that rapidly became the main Italian alternative fixed-line carrier for voice services and the market leader in internet access.

Following Olivetti’s takeover of Telecom Italia, in July 1999 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of TIM. Following the merger between Telecom Italia and TIM, in July 2005 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Italia, a position he held until his resignation in October 2005.

A Board Member of the Wharton Club of Italy and of the Wharton EMEA Executive Board, Mr. De Benedetti graduated in History and Economics from Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT - USA) in 1984. Later he attended the Wharton Business School (Philadelphia, PA - USA) where he obtained a MBA (1987).
